The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to enhance wastewater treatment in the Najafgarh drain and Yamuna river by upgrading two existing sewage treatment plants (STPs). The 100 MLD STP at Dhanwapur and 120 MLD STP at Behrampur will be converted into tertiary treatment plants to meet wastewater discharge standards. The upgrades, with a focus on reducing biological oxygen demand (BOD) from 30 mg/L to the permissible 10 mg/L, will make the treated water suitable for horticulture, construction, and groundwater recharge. The project is expected to take two years, with Rs 75.5 crore allocated for Dhanwapur and Rs 50.6 crore for Behrampur.
