NHAI Announces Major Road Resurfacing Project to Enhance Connectivity in Uttar Pradesh

In a significant move to improve road infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has unveiled plans to resurface two crucial highways connecting Lucknow with Kanpur and Ayodhya. The project aims to address longstanding issues of deteriorating road quality and inconsistent carriageway thickness, providing smoother and safer journeys for commuters.

Over the years, the Lucknow-Kanpur highway has witnessed a decline in quality due to insufficient maintenance, leading to discomfort for travelers. Similarly, the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway has been plagued by uneven surfaces, causing inconvenience to vehicle owners. Random repairs and patching works have resulted in inconsistencies, contributing to a bumpy ride experience.

To rectify these issues, NHAI has allocated a budget of Rs 100 crore for the comprehensive overhaul of the 47 km-long stretch between Bani and Jajmau Ganga bridge on the Lucknow-Kanpur route. Additionally, Rs 350 crore has been earmarked for refurbishing the 120-km-long Polytechnic to Ayodhya National Highway. The resurfacing works will involve laying 100 mm of bitumen over the existing highways, ensuring durability and longevity of the roads.

The tendering process has been completed, and contracts have been awarded to agencies. Contractors have been instructed to commence resurfacing works within a fortnight, with the goal of completing both projects before the onset of monsoon. This proactive approach reflects NHAI’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure and facilitating smoother travel experiences for commuters.

In addition to the highway resurfacing projects, NHAI is also focusing on developing a greenfield expressway between Lucknow, Unnao, and Kanpur. This ambitious initiative aims to improve connectivity to the Trans-Ganga city, fostering economic growth and development in the region.
