Underground Sports Complex Proposed at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Mumbai

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)

BMC in collaboration with architect Hafeez Contractor, proposes a world-class underground sports complex at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse. Of the 211-acre site leased by the Royal Western India Turf Club, 91 acres will be retained for racing and 120 acres redeveloped. The two-level underground facility will feature Olympic-standard sports amenities and parking for 5,000 cars, while the surface will host a topiary garden, urban forest, and concert venue. Feasibility studies are in progress to ensure minimal infrastructure disruption.
