In a historic move, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has purchased the Goindwal Sahib Thermal Power Plant for Rs 1,080 crore, boasting the country’s most economical deal for a 540-MW thermal plant. The state aims to save substantial costs, reduce litigation with GVK, and lower power tariffs by Rs 1 per unit. The acquisition aligns with Punjab’s strategy to enhance energy self-sufficiency and explore cost-effective alternatives in the power sector.
