The Asian Development Bank has finally sanctioned the long-awaited Rs 4,000 crore loan, heralding a pivotal stride towards the modernization of government hospitals and medical colleges across Maharashtra. Initiated with an initial approval of Rs 1,200 crores, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has emphasized the establishment of state-of-the-art district hospitals, with immediate plans for a fully-equipped 500-bed facility in Dharashiv district. The sanctioned funds, divided into Rs 1,200 crores for construction and strategic aspects, and $350 million (approx. Rs 2,800 crores) for construction and machinery, underscore the significant infusion of resources into healthcare infrastructure. Currently, construction tender processes are advancing swiftly in Alibaug, with similar initiatives underway in Sindhudurg and Kolhapur.
