Chennai Metro Phase II Funding Crosses Rs 8,000 Crore

The Central Government has disbursed over Rs 8,000 crore for Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II, including Rs 3,000 crore in 2025. The Rs 63,246-crore project, a 50:50 Centre–State joint venture backed by international loans, covers 118.9 km across three corridors. As of June 2025, it has achieved 44.33% physical and 40.43% financial progress. The first elevated section, Corridor 4 from Poonamallee to Porur, is slated for opening in December 2025, with more sections expected to become operational in 2026.
