The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has granted regulatory approval for India’s inaugural commercial standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. This pioneering endeavor, backed by The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), entails a concessional loan covering 70% of the total project cost. In collaboration with IndiGrid and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), the approved project will establish a 20 MW/40 MWh BESS, strategically positioned at BRPL’s 33/11 kV Kilokari substation. Notably, this project is poised to set a new benchmark for efficiency, with an anticipated commissioning timeframe of 18 20 months from inception to implementation, making it the fastest BESS project to date.
