Feasibility studies underway for Chennai Water Metro project

The first phase of feasibility studies for the Chennai Water Metro project is progressing along the Buckingham Canal stretch between Napier Bridge and Kovalam. Planned as a 53 km passenger ferry corridor, the project is estimated to cost Rs.3,000–5,000 crore. The initiative includes canal dredging, desilting, sewage treatment plants, and flood mitigation measures. Ten potential routes have been identified, with integration into the 1,078 km national waterway network. A detailed project report will follow the feasibility study submission.
