The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is implementing pilot projects aimed at decarbonizing the steel sector using green hydrogen under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The steel industry is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions globally, accounting for around 7% annually. The program aims to support the deployment of green hydrogen and its derivatives as fuel in the iron and steel-making process. With an outlay of ?4.55 billion until the financial year 2029-30, these pilot projects signify a significant move towards sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the steel industry.
