India Launches 4th Tranche e-Auction for Critical Minerals Including Lithium

In February last year, India discovered its first lithium deposits in Jammu and Kashmir, estimated at 5.9 million tonnes. In July 2023, India amended its mining rules to allow private miners to explore these materials. The Union Minister for Coal and Mines has now launched the 4th Tranche e-auction of Critical Minerals, with 21 blocks available, including 11 new blocks in states like Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Karnataka. During this tranche, India’s first lithium block in Katghora and a Rare Earth Element (REE) block in Chhattisgarh were awarded to Maiki South Mining Private Limited.
