Integrated Development of Berths and Outer Terminals at Kolkata Dock

The port authority is coming up with integrated development of Berth Nos. 1 through 5 at the Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) and two Outer Container Terminals (OT-1 and OT-2) aims to enhance the Kolkata Dock System’s (KDS) capacity. Currently handling container cargo with berths 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 using three Mobile Harbor Cranes (MHCs), the upgrade will expand terminal capacity to 0.93 million TEUs (~12 MTPA). Of this, 1 MTPA will be allocated for multipurpose cargo, while the remaining 11 MTPA will be container cargo. The development includes deploying Rail-Mounted Quay Cranes (RMQCs) at OT-1 and OT-2 and MHCs at berths 2, 3, 4, and 5 at NSD.
