NTPC commissions 87.5 MW solar capacity, total installed capacity nears 89.6 GW
Power Sector News India
NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power utility, has strategically bolstered its green energy footprint and operational scale, reaching a significant milestone of 89,615 MW in total group installed capacity and 88,535 MW in commercial capacity. This growth was catalyzed by the successful declaration of the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for an 87.5 MW solar block at the Shambhu ki Bhurji-II solar project in Rajasthan. Executed via its subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), this addition represents the final segment of a larger 150 MW solar installation. By integrating this renewable asset, NTPC continues to pivot toward a more sustainable energy mix, demonstrating a disciplined transition from its traditional thermal power dominance to a diversified portfolio that aligns with national decarbonization targets and enhances the reliability of the Indian power grid through large-scale solar infrastructure.
