Union Cabinet Approves India’s First 1 GW Offshore Wind Energy Projects

The Union Cabinet has approved India’s first offshore wind energy projects with a capacity of 1 GW, split equally between Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, at a total cost of Rs 7,453 crore. The Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme allocates Rs 6,853 crore for the installation and commissioning of 1 GW of offshore wind energy projects (500 MW each off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu) and grants Rs 600 crore for upgrading two ports to support logistics requirements for these projects.
