The Union Cabinet is anticipated to greenlight the Rs 76,220 crore Vadhavan Port project in Maharashtra, among ten major infrastructure proposals awaiting approval. Managed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), the port will be constructed in the environmentally sensitive Dahanu taluka of Palghar district. It will be developed as a joint venture, with JNPT holding 74% stake and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) owning 26%. The project will be executed in phases, with an initial handling capacity of 15 million TEU containers, escalating to 23.2 million TEUs after the second phase. APM Terminals and DP World have already expressed interest in participating, with agreements signed for terminal development, marking significant strides in Maharashtra’s maritime infrastructure.
