Urban Infrastructure Sector News India

The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated preparatory steps for a Water Metro service covering Ayodhya, Varanasi and Prayagraj to evaluate river-based urban mobility for intra- and inter-city operations. A detailed feasibility study will assess technical, financial and operational viability, including vessel technology, battery-electric propulsion suitability, route alignment on the Ganga, Saryu and Yamuna, docking and terminal infrastructure, intermodal integration with existing transport hubs, scheduling and ridership forecasting, safety and regulatory compliance, maintenance and charging facilities, and tariff or revenue frameworks. Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is likely to be consulted for technical inputs. The project scope also contemplates environmental assessments and stakeholder engagement prior to project structuring.
