50 MW solar plant under consideration within the Bakhira bird sanctuary

The Uttar Pradesh government plans to establish a 50 MW solar plant within the Bakhira bird sanctuary, India’s largest natural floodplain wetland in Sant Kabir Nagar district. The proposal, initiated by the district magistrate, suggests installing a ground-mounted or floating solar plant in the Bakhira lake area, an eco-sensitive zone and emerging tourist destination. UPNEDA director Anupam Shukla stated that bids will soon be invited for the project under the state’s solar policy, with the plant’s nature (floating or ground-mounted) determined by a feasibility study conducted by Lucknow Solar Power Development Corporation Ltd. The LSPDCL, formed in 2015, is a joint venture of UPNEDA and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
