BMC to commission Deonar waste-to-energy plant by October 2025

The BMC is expediting the long-delayed waste-to-energy (WTE) plant at Deonar, set to be commissioned by October 2025 with an increased power generation capacity of 7 MW. The plant, under construction since June 2022, will process 600 metric tonnes of waste daily, addressing part of Mumbais 6,300 MT waste output. A ?648 crore contract was awarded to M/s Chennai MSW Pvt Ltd, with a 40-month design and build period and 15 years of operation and maintenance. The BMC has also sought land allocation to support the project while reserving space for the Dharavi Redevelopment initiative.
