India Approves ?30,000 Cr Northeast Railway Project to Enhance Connectivity

Railways Sector News India

India has initiated plans to construct approximately 500 km of railway lines in the northeast, with an estimated investment of ?30,000 crore and a targeted completion timeline of four years. The project will feature tunnels, bridges, and connections to remote areas adjoining Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Bhutan, enhancing regional accessibility. Designed to strengthen logistics, mobility, defense preparedness, and emergency response, the railway expansion will complement the extensive highway network developed in the region over the past decade and build on the 1,700 km of rail lines already added in the northeast, further improving connectivity and socio-economic development in these strategic areas.
