Government Announces Shipbuilding Programme For 112 Vessels With Financing

A central government shipbuilding programme will deliver 112 vessels via joint ventures with oil public sector undertakings backed by a comprehensive Rs. 69,725 crore package and complementary schemes including the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme and the Maritime Development Fund. Project scope encompasses shipyard infrastructure upgrades, hull fabrication facilities, outfitting berths, dry docks, heavy-lift cranes, steel supply chains, modular construction yards, workforce training centres, and supplier ecosystem development. Financial and policy measures include long-term financing instruments, concessional support under SBFAS, tonnage tax reforms, customs duty exemptions, and implementation milestones under the Shipbuilding Development Scheme to expand domestic ship construction capacity to targeted gross tonnage levels and to schedule vessel deliveries across defined timelines.
