India is prioritizing the establishment of common swapping stations for electric buses, aiming to develop standards for swappable e-bus batteries to ensure interoperability and address range anxiety. With 8,583 electric buses registered as of early July 2024, the government plans to replace 8,00,000 diesel buses with electric ones by 2030. This initiative includes creating consistent battery requirements to boost adoption, particularly through programmes like PM e-Bus Sewa and FAME. The push also involves a proposed national battery-swapping strategy to streamline operations and encourage private sector participation.
