Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Department Reviews Tunnel-2 Construction Progress of Veligonda Irrigation Project Across Prakasam and SPSR Nellore Districts

Canal/Dam/Irrigation Sector News India

The Veligonda Irrigation Project, being implemented by the Water Resources Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, is located across Prakasam and SPSR Nellore districts. The department recently reviewed construction progress of Tunnel-2, a critical 7-km-long component of the project. Of the total tunnel length, approximately 3.2 km of lining work has been completed, while the remaining 3.6 km is targeted for completion by June 2026. Construction activities were temporarily affected in November due to Cyclone Montha and resumed in December following dewatering operations. Currently, four gantry cranes are deployed at the site, with instructions issued to mobilise one additional crane to accelerate progress. The review also covered the status and remedial measures related to a stuck tunnel boring machine (TBM) within the project stretch.
