GMADA Rethinks Roundabout Plan on Airport Road
Roads and Highways Sector News | Project News | Project Update | Project Opportunities
The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is reconsidering its plan to build three roundabouts on Airport Road (PR-7) due to concerns over traffic diversion during construction. Despite the original goal of reducing congestion and accidents, the heavy traffic flow and lack of alternative routes for diversion have raised feasibility issues. GMADA is now working with traffic experts to develop a new plan. The road, connecting Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport to Mohali and Chandigarh, is crucial for regional traffic, making construction of roundabouts potentially worsen congestion. Additionally, concerns about affecting the underground storm drain network have emerged.
