India, ADB sign USD 126 million pact for Uttarakhand tourism

Tourism Sector News India

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $126.42 million loan and $1 million in technical assistance for the Sustainable, Inclusive, and Climate-Resilient Tourism Development at Tehri Lake Area Project in Uttarakhand, India. The project aims to promote sustainable and climate-resilient tourism to boost rural livelihoods in the Tehri Garhwal District, one of the state’s most climate-vulnerable and economically disadvantaged regions. It will focus on developing climate-adaptive infrastructure, enhancing community participation, and creating inclusive economic opportunities while addressing challenges such as natural hazards, out-migration, and increasing tourist pressures. The initiative aligns with ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy 2023–2027 for India, which prioritizes rural transformation through tourism development, private sector engagement, and climate-resilient infrastructure and services to foster sustainable and inclusive growth.
