India’s First Geothermal Power Project Planned in Rajasthan

India is set to launch its first commercial-scale geothermal power project at the Raageswari gas field in Barmer, Rajasthan. IIT Madras will conduct a two-year, ?18.93 crore feasibility study to retrofit three unproductive oil wells into geothermal wells, targeting a capacity of 450 kW. A legal agreement between IIT Madras and Cairn Vedanta will cover implementation, operations, IPR, and power purchase terms for the project.
