Indias major ports handled approx. 855 million tonne (MT) of cargo in FY2024-25, up 4.3% from the previous year. The increase was driven by container traffic (up 10%), fertilizers (13%), POL cargo (3%), and miscellaneous goods (31%). Paradip and Deendayal ports crossed 150 MT for the first time. JNPA handled 7.3 million TEUs, up 13.5%. As part of port-led development, 962 acres were allocated, attracting expected investments of Rs. 68,780 crore. PPP investment at major ports tripled to Rs. 3,986 crore from Rs. 1,329 crore in FY23, reinforcing the sectors growing role in trade and infrastructure development. Coastal shipping volumes also witnessed a boost, aligning with the government’s focus on multimodal logistics. Ongoing digitalisation and efficiency upgrades are further enhancing operational capabilities across key port locations.
