Massive Central Investment Overhauls North Eastern Multi-Modal Connectivity

The Central Government is executing a transformative infrastructure surge across the North Eastern Region (NER) to bridge the developmental gap and foster regional economic integration through a massive multi-modal investment. This comprehensive strategy includes the construction of 78 km of high-priority highways at a cost of ?2,859 crore, alongside a monumental railway expansion spanning 1,368 km with a financial outlay of ?74,972 crore, aimed at bringing the most remote areas into the national rail network. To leverage the region’s vast river systems, authorities have also sanctioned Rs. 310 crore for modern ferry terminals, enhancing inland waterway connectivity as a viable alternative for trade and transport.
