Mumbai Metropolitan Region expands suburban rail connectivity projects

The Maharashtra government is advancing major suburban rail expansions across Central and Western Railways to support the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Key projects include connecting Navi Mumbai International Airport to suburban trains with two dedicated lines from Khandeshwar and Targhar. Central Railway focuses on a fourth line between Asangaon and Kasara and the Rs 151 crore Badlapur-Karjat corridor under MUTP Phase-3A. Western Railway plans a 75-km Dahanu to Vadhvan Port rail link to boost port connectivity. Land acquisition and surveys are ongoing.
