Nuclear Power and Battery Storage Projects Planned in Bihar

Bihar is set to host its first atomic power plant under the newly launched Nuclear Energy Mission, announced in the Union Budget 2025–26 with a ?20,000 crore allocation. The project will feature a Small Modular Reactor (SMR), designed for flexibility, safety, and cost-efficiency. Site and scale details will be finalised during later stages. In addition, the Centre has approved a 1,000 MW battery storage capacity project in Bihar, offering viability gap funding of ?18 lakh per MW. These developments aim to enhance regional energy security and grid stability.
