Power Sector News India

A new interstate transmission system, NERGS-III Siang Basin, has been proposed at an estimated cost of ?1,804 crore to facilitate power evacuation from upcoming hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The project, targeted for commissioning by February 2029, will transmit power from the 240 MW Heo and 186 MW Tato-I hydroelectric projects in Shi-Yomi district, while also supporting future hydropower developments totaling 5,600 MW. The scheme will include a 400/220 kV GIS substation at Kaying and approximately 225 km of 400 kV transmission lines. The initiative gained momentum with the Prime Minister laying the foundation stone for the Tato-I and Heo Hydroelectric Projects, marking a major step toward strengthening the state’s renewable energy and transmission infrastructure.
