Western Railway’s Borivali-Virar Expansion Project Set for 2027

Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC)

The Borivali-Virar Expansion Project on the Western Railway corridor is progressing, with estimates, designs, and drone surveys completed and alignment finalized. Major and minor bridge plans have been approved. Executed by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), the project aims to begin by December 2027. Western Railway and the Palghar collectorate have initiated the property acquisition process for the fifth and sixth lines from Borivali to Virar, expected to relieve stress on the fast corridor for suburban trains.
