Revolutionizing Railway Connectivity: Progress Updates on Major Track Doubling Projects in Karnataka

The Yeshwanthpur-Channasandra track doubling project, covering 48 km and with a budget of Rs 498.73 crore, has reached a completion rate of only 25%. In contrast, the Baiyappanahalli-Channasandra track doubling initiative, spanning 21.70 km and allocated Rs 314.10 crore, has made significant strides, achieving a progress rate of 55%.
A senior official from the South Western Railways provided insights into the development trajectory of these projects. The approval for yards for the Chikkabanavara-Baiyappanahalli stretch has been granted, with various tasks including earthworks, small bridges, track works, and station building in progress. It is anticipated that these undertakings will be finalized by December 2024.
Further detailing the timeline, the Yeshwanthpur-Yeshwanthpur bypass-Lottegollahalli-Hebbal stretch (8.1 km) is expected to be accomplished by June 2024 within the fiscal year 2024-25. Additionally, the Yeshwanthpur bypass to Lottegollahalli’s fourth line (2.5 km) is slated for completion by December 2024. The Hebbal-Baiyappanahalli stretch (11.6 km) is also targeted for completion by the same period.
In the Baiyappanahalli-Hosur doubling works (48 km), the Carmelaram-Heelalige section (10.5 km) commenced in February. Tenders have been awarded for various tasks, including earthworks, bridges, and utility shifting, with expectations of completion within the fiscal year 2023-24.
The project’s completion target is set for December 2027, with concerted efforts underway to adhere to the timeline.
