Rs. 2,126 Crore Cleared for Chennai Metro Western Extension

The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned Rs. 2,126 crore for preparatory works on the 27.9 km Chennai Metro western extension from Poonamallee to Sunguvarchatram. The project, estimated at Rs. 8,779 crore for this priority segment, includes 14 elevated stations. The corridor forms part of a larger 52.94 km line to Parandur greenfield airport, costing Rs. 15,906 crore overall. Of the sanctioned outlay, Rs. 1,836 crore will go towards land acquisition, while the balance covers surveys and roadworks pending Union clearance.
