Amazon to recharge groundwater in Vaitarna basin, Maharashtra

Water Sector Sector News India

Amazon, in partnership with ICRISAT, will launch a groundwater recharge initiative in Maharashtra’s Vaitarna basin, expected to be operational by 2027. The project aims to replenish over 1.3 billion litres of water annually, benefiting around 700 farm families and enhancing irrigation, water availability, and household incomes. Measures include rainwater harvesting ponds, field bunding, improved drainage, and soil erosion control, supporting rural agriculture and Mumbai’s urban water supply while boosting climate resilience.
