Centre recommends EC for NMDC mining expansion

The Centre has recommended environmental clearance for state-owned NMDC Limited to expand iron ore mining operations in the Bailadila Reserve Forest at the Kirandul complex in Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh, involving diversion of about 875 hectares of forest land to increase production capacity from 11.30 MTPA to 14.50 MTPA. Forest clearance for the area was earlier granted in March 2020 and remains valid until September 2037, while NMDC has proposed mitigation measures including a site-specific conservation plan and has deposited ?10.25 crore with the Dantewada Forest Division for its implementation.
