The Jhariya Pumped Storage Project is proposed as a self-identified off-stream closed loop pumped storage project with an installed capacity of 1620 MW in generation mode and 1740 MW in pumping mode. The project involves construction of two artificial reservoirs interconnected through a water conductor system supplying reversible pump-turbine units and discharging into the lower reservoir through a tailrace tunnel. Both reservoirs are located away from existing rivers, streams and nallahs. The project is located in the Tariya Range of Obra Forest Division, Obra Tehsil, Sonbhadra District, Uttar Pradesh, for which environmental clearance is sought.
