The project involves the reconstruction of Berth No. 8 and mechanization of Berth Nos. 7 & 8 at the Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) of Kolkata Dock System (KDS), Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) on a DBFOT basis under PPP. The berths, dedicated to container handling, currently have a maximum capacity of 1.36 MTPA (0.09 MTEUs) for Berth 7 and 2.53 MTPA (0.16 MTEUs) for Berth 8.
