Two New Nuclear Units Planned at Kaiga, Karnataka

Karnataka is set to boost its power supply with two upcoming 700 MW units at the Kaiga Nuclear Power Station in Uttara Kannada, expected to start operations by 2030. Nearly 50% of the generated power will be allocated to the state, up from the current 35% from existing 220 MW units. Construction will commence post-monsoon after excavation works. BHEL has secured the turbine package, while Megha Engineers and Infrastructure Ltd will execute the nuclear package. Environmental clearances are already in place.
